‘US, Russia, Japan among other to attend the event’
Notwithstanding the pressure of International players, the government of India is all set to hold a G20 meeting in Kashmir valley.
The G20 is the first important international meeting that is being held in volatile Kashmir. This G20’s tourism working group is scheduled to meet in Srinagar between May 22 and May 24.
This first meet of its kind is expected to be one of the most high-profile events hosted in Kashmir. The meetings will take place at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Conference Centre. The delegates will also visit the famed tourist spot in north Kashmir, the Gulmarg.
It is pertinent to mention that India assumed the Presidency of G20 countries on December 1, 2022, under the theme of One Earth, One Family, One Future.
The G20 foreign dignitaries include four from Russia and Indonesia, two from the United States of America and Brazil and one from Mexico, Turkey, Japan, Korea and Nigeria.
The security apparatus of the government of India has also reviewed security arrangements for the upcoming G20 meeting in Srinagar which was chaired by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla Tuesday. Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka and senior security officials have given their inputs to the security establishment of the smooth conduct of the meet.
While the security has been beefed up in length and breadth of the Kashmir valley, the Srinagar city has also been given up a major uplift to entertain the foreign guests.
With the major bureaucratic hiccups in the face-lifting of Srinagar, the administration has been able to finish up the job on time. The Dal Lake, the place the guests are visiting, has also been given a face-lift for the entertainment of the guests. The work on famed Dal Lake has been going on double shifts.
A major facelift of the iconic Ghanta Ghar (the Clock Tower) in the middle of the history of Lal Chowk (Red Square) has also been put on display. While the other major market like the Polo View Market has also gone through major changes for the upcoming G20 meet.
One of the key aspects of the meeting is to empower and engage youth on a larger scale so that they can showcase their talent at various levels.
Why is the youth aspect becoming important is because in the conflict-ridden-Kashmir, the major sufferers have been youth and their aspirations. The G20 meet will also ensure that the fresh perspective of the youth and their positive attitude will try to create more space for the youth.
If the G20 meet is held without any untoward incident, it will be one of the major boosts of the government of India to showcase to the world that everything is hunky-dory in the tumultuous Kashmir valley.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has described G20 summits as a matter of pride for the country and impressed upon the officials of his administration to make concerted efforts to ensure successful conduct of one of the meetings in Srinagar.
“G20 is a matter of pride for the country. We should make concerted efforts to ensure successful conduct of the G20 meeting in Srinagar,” he said.
