Honey Festival organised by Apiculture Development Scheme Jammu at KVK Samba

A Honey Festival was organized under Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) by the Apiculture Development Scheme, Directorate of Agriculture Jammu here at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Samba.

Director Agriculture Jammu S. Arvinder Singh Reen felicitated the Beekeepers and the entrepreneurs of District Samba at the concluding session.

The festival showcased exhibits demonstrated by progressive beekeepers and entrepreneurs, highlighting the latest techniques and innovations in apiculture. Beneficiaries of the Apiculture Scheme under HADP also participated, providing a practical demonstration of beekeeping practices.

The festival provided a platform for beekeepers, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices in apiculture. It also aimed to promote the consumption of pure and high-quality honey, supporting the growth of local beekeeping industry. The event was attended by a large number of beekeepers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and officials from the agriculture department.

While addressing the gathering of Beekeepers and farmers from different FPOs and NGOs, Director Agriculture A.S Reen encouraged local youth to adopt Beekeeping as a profession to earn livelihood and employment generation. He stressed to strengthen and promote Apis cerenaindica- Indian bee for getting good remuneration by marketing at good price. 

"Beekeeping not only contributes to the agricultural economy but also plays a crucial role in pollination, which is essential for the growth of many crops. Through events like this, we aim to promote innovative practices, encourage youth participation, and ensure the growth of this vital sector,” he added.

The Director Agriculture further highlighted the role of SKUAST Jammu in promoting apiculture research and development in the region. He emphasized the need for collaboration between researchers, farmers, and entrepreneurs to promote sustainable apiculture practices.

Earlier the festival was inaugurated by Additional District Development Commissioner Samba,   Champa Devi, in the presence of Chief Agriculture Officer, Samba, S. M.G Singh, Dr. Sanjay Khajuria Head KVK Samba, Rajesh Verma Assistant Entomologist, Jammu and S. Harvinder Singh DAO (Ext.) Samba and other officers and officials of the department.
