The great Britain is officially and formally a Christian country .However today the population of Muslims in England is fast increasing .The British government for the first time has organized and held an Iftar party in the holy month of Ramdhan to Muslims and it can be said to be historical given the fact that British is essentially and basically a Christian country .Three hundred common Muslim took part in the historical Iftar party and the prime minister Starmer and the royal family was also present at the momentous occasion .The organization of the Iftar party and invitation to the common Muslims portrays that Britain is a secular democracy and it treats Muslims who constitute a large section of its population with equity .It is so good that UK’s House of Commons hosted historic Iftar for the first time ever .The important occasion was marked by the gracious presence of UK prime minister Keir Starmer ,who stated that British Muslims are facing hardships, particularly due to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The British House of Commons hosted its first ever Iftar ceremony during Ramadan ,with an Imam addressing the august gathering in both Arabic and English in a historic event at the UK parliament on Tuesday .Prime minister marks Ramadan at ‘difficult time for Muslims in the UK .’’The Prime Minister has celebrated Ramadan at what he called a ‘difficult time for the Muslims in the UK’’ at an Iftar event in parliament .Speaking at the event, Starmer stated ,’’I know [this] has been a very difficult time for Muslims in the United Kingdom with the pain of the conflict in Gaza and the sufferings of the Palestinians .

’’The PM expressed solidarity with the Muslim community and thanked them for their contributions to British society .The event , called ‘The Big Iftar, ’’was organized by the All-Party Parliamentary Group on British Muslims and took place on March 4,2025.Traditionally ,Ramadan Iftars in parliament were held at the speakers House ,marking this a significant departure from past years and practice .During the gathering ,Starmer emphasized the importance of unity ,saying ,’’British Muslims contribute to every community in Britain ,and it is essential to recognize and celebrate these contributions ,especially in times of hardship .’’The prime minister joined fellow MP’s and members of the Muslim community in breaking the fast ,which comes just after the start of Ramadan on March 1. PM said ‘’I am absolutely clear that the Palestinian must be allowed to rebuild ,and we should stand alongside them in this effort on the road to a two –state solution---the only way to get lasting peace in my opinion .’’Sir the riots after three young girls were murdered in Southport last summer .’’It is shocking-absolutely shocking –that 2024 was the worst year for anti-Muslim hate crime since the Home Office began collecting data. Keir also said that he was ‘’horrified ’’by the ‘’wave of hatred we have seen directed towards British Muslims’’ which he said was ‘’whipped up by far-right rhetoric and disinformation,’’ particularly in the wake of the riots after three young girls were murdered in Southport last summer .They have gone in the wrong direction to a record high—that is how serious it is .But of course ,they are just statistics ,but behind those statistics are real people impacted every day by this hatred ,fearful for their families ,fearful for their children facing harassment on our streets,’’. ‘
’I always thought these numbers would go down . In another in first ,Windsor Castle opened its doors for public Iftar event in its state Apartments on Sunday ,March 2,2025.Over 350 guests gathered in St George’s Hall to break fast, making it the first time in the castle’s 1,000 –year history that such an event was held. The open iftar at Windsor Castle was seen as a significant moment of cultural inclusivity ,bringing together people from diverse backgrounds to observe the sacred tradition of Ramadan in one of the most historic royal residences in the UK .Prime Minister said the images in Southport days after the riots of people rebuilding a wall in front of a mosque which was damaged is ‘’the true spirit of this country’’ and wished attendees a ‘’peaceful ,blessed and fruitful holy month.’’
.Meanwhile ,at Windsor Castle in England ,Muslim communities are observing Ramadan ,the holy month of fasting, prayer ,and reflection. This Islamic tradition ,which involves abstaining from food and drink from dawn until sunset ,is being commemorated amidst the historic background of the royal residence .Really it is no ordinary thing that Sir Keir Starmer attended the big Iftar hosted by All –Party parliamentary Group on British Muslims to observe Ramadan ,which began on Friday-March 1 and will go on until March 30. ,the PM thanked British Muslims for their contributions in ‘’every community in Britain ‘’ and reflected on the ‘’pain of the conflict in Gaza’’ and how conflict abroad ‘’affects communities here at home.’’ .The Prime Minister has celebrated Ramadan at what he called a ‘’difficult time for Muslims in the UK ‘’ at an iftar event in Parliament .The PM said ‘’I know this has been a very difficult time for Muslims here in the UK with the pain of the conflict in Gaza and the suffering of the Palestinians .
It is pertinent to mention that while UK MP’s organized a Ramadan event known as the big Iftar ,but it faced some criticism from Muslims angry with the British governments pro-Israel policies .During an evening speech at the first ever iftar held in West minister Hall at Parliament for Ramadan ,Starmer discussed several issues affecting the Muslim community over the past year .Starmer however has been criticized for his pro-Israel policies and statements during Israel’s war on Gaza ,particularly when he said that Israel has the right to cut off electricity and water to Gaza after the surprise Hamas attack on Israel which began the Gaza war .It is so good that at government level big Iftar party was hosted in which prime minister Starmer participated and expressed his concern over the plight of British Muslims and on sufferings of Muslims over Gaza conflict .The mutual brotherhood ,communal harmony ,cultural diversity and inclusivity should be maintained and strengthened for the good of all Britishers and for this the people of Christian community should take the initiative .At the end it can be said that the Iftar event hosted in the parliament Hall is really historic ,significant and it will have positive bearing upon the relations between the communities of Christians and British Muslims and will be the beginning of the end of hatred against Muslims in UK.
