
The House Committee constituted to review the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Jammu & Kashmir convened a meeting today at the Legislative Assembly Complex, Srinagar.
Chaired by Hasnain Masoodi, the meeting was attended by Committee Members Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, Ali Mohammad Dar, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Aijaz Ahmad Jan, Rajiv Jasrotia, Ranbir Singh Pathania, Tanveer Sadiq, Javaid Riyaz (Bedar), Muzaffar Iqbal Khan, Rafiq Ahmad Naik, Arjun Singh Raju, and Iftikar Ahmad.
Masoodi emphasized the mission’s goal of providing piped tap water (Har Ghar Nal Se Jal) to every rural household, noting that at launch in 2019, only 16.71% of rural homes had tap water access. The deadline, originally set for 2025, has now been extended to 2028.
The Committee reviewed detailed reports from the Jal Shakti Department and raised concerns over discrepancies in water supply schemes across various areas. Members called for timely resolution of these issues and improved coordination between departments and legislators to ensure effective implementation.
Shaleen Kabra, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary), Jal Shakti Department, presented a status report. As of May 31, 2025, 3,596 works and 1,484 schemes have been completed under JJM, and 6,791 out of 6,887 sanctioned works have been initiated.
He reiterated the mission’s commitment to provide Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs) delivering 55 litres per capita per day as per BIS 10500 standards.
The meeting was also attended by Mission Director JJM Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Chief Engineers of Jal Shakti from both regions, and senior officials from Finance, Planning, and other concerned departments.
