Handicrafts Service Centre (HSC) Baramulla, under the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, organised a Digital Awareness Programme to equip local artisans with essential digital competencies aimed at enhancing their market outreach. This initiative is part of the ongoing National Handicrafts Week 2025, celebrated across the country.

The session, titled “Digital Awareness Among Artisans on GeM Onboarding, E-Commerce, Social Media & Virtual Catalogue,” included practical demonstrations on leveraging social media for promotion, developing virtual catalogues, and registering products on the Government e Marketplace (GeM). Participants of the programme gained hands on insights into how digital platforms can broaden market access and improve craft visibility.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Waseem Hussain, Assistant Director, HSC Baramulla, said the initiative aims to empower artisans through digital integration and strengthen the traditional handicraft ecosystem of Jammu & Kashmir.
The programme highlights the government’s sustained efforts toward upskilling artisans, preserving cultural heritage, and enabling them to participate effectively in an increasingly digital and competitive marketplace.
