Srinagar, Nov 4: The disgruntled NC leader and six-time MLA Mubarik Gul on Wednesday deferred his scheduled press conference but asserted that he was a fighter and will continue to fight.
Gul, who represents Eidgah constituency in Srinagar, was scheduled to address the media amid growing discontent over his non-inclusion in recent Cabinet expansion.
Gul told the media that he has taken into account the prevailing situation in Jammu and Kashmir, consultations with colleagues and the sentiments of his supporters.
He said some of his workers have been associated with him for nearly a decade, while others had stood by him for 51 years, since 1975.
"I announce that I am deferring today's press conference. I will not say anything on this matter today," Gul said, adding that he wanted to "respect the sentiments" of his colleagues and friends and represent their feelings.
"I will neither say anything nor make any announcement. God willing, things will happen at their appropriate time," he said, adding that what he had said was the only message he wished to convey. He thanked everyone and said he had "nothing to clarify and nothing more to say."
Gul said some colleagues had guided him over the telephone and he would follow their advice and "continue to move forward accordingly."
In a message to party leadership, Gul said, "I am a fighter. I will continue to fight."
Gul's discontent comes amid dissent in the NC following the induction of four new ministers into Omar Abdullah's Cabinet on October 27, taking the council of ministers to its maximum permissible strength of nine.
The Eidgah MLA has been upset at being left out of the Cabinet expansion, prompting his supporters to stage protests in Srinagar.
In an apparent attempt to address the resentment, NC president Farooq Abdullah appointed Gul as the party's general secretary soon after the Cabinet expansion. He replaced Ali Mohammad Sagar, who had joined the Cabinet. However, days later, Sagar was reappointed as the party's general secretary. A group of party legislators also held a meeting at the Srinagar residence of a MLA.
