
An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was defused by a joint team of the J&K police and the army in north Kashmir's Bandipora district on Saturday.
A senior police officer said that the 10-kg IED was detected by the police and army in an orchard in Bagh area of Bandipora district. He said the bomb disposal squads of the Army and police defused the IED through a controlled explosion.
There has been a spurt in militant violence in Kashmir in recent days and weeks, even as the counterinsurgency operations have been hugely successful with at least 14 militants gunned down in operations in the first fortnight of this year.
At least six militants among the fourteen militants killed this year are foreigners believed to be from Pakistan.
