
Itanagar, May 4: Major General Inderjit Singh Bhinder, Inspector General Assam Rifles (East), undertook a two-day visit to forward and isolated posts in Manipur from May 2 to May 3, 2026, to review operational preparedness and security arrangements in the sensitive region.
During the visit, the Inspector General covered key locations including Lairouching, Mao, Maram, and T Khullen in Senapati district. These areas are considered strategically important due to their proximity to vulnerable stretches and their role in maintaining stability in the region.
At each post, he was briefed by field commanders on the prevailing security situation, ongoing operational activities, and the readiness level of deployed units. Detailed discussions were held on ground challenges, surveillance mechanisms, and coordination between different security formations operating in the area.
The Inspector General also reviewed administrative effectiveness, including logistics support, infrastructure availability, and welfare measures being extended to troops serving in difficult and remote conditions. He interacted with personnel on the ground, appreciating their commitment and operational efficiency in challenging terrain and circumstances.
A key focus of the visit was the civil–military interface, with emphasis on strengthening coordination with local communities and ensuring that security operations are conducted in a manner that supports peace and development in the region. He underscored the importance of maintaining trust and cooperation with the local population.
Maj Gen Bhinder stressed the need to sustain high levels of operational readiness, improve inter-unit coordination, and remain vigilant in view of the dynamic security environment. He reiterated that Assam Rifles must continue to act as a stabilising force while adapting to emerging challenges on the ground.
The visit concluded with directions to further enhance efficiency, troop welfare, and operational synergy across all forward locations in the sector.
