May 18, 2026 | Shugufta Rashid

Srinagar:, May 17: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organised an orientation programme at Women’s College Srinagar to guide newly enrolled and prospective students about academic opportunities, course structures, and career pathways offered by the university.

The programme aimed to familiarise students with IGNOU’s flexible learning system, wide range of academic programmes, and student support services designed to make higher education accessible to learners from diverse backgrounds.
Faculty members and academic counsellors addressed the participants, providing detailed information on course selection, credit system, examination procedures, and online learning resources. They also highlighted the university’s emphasis on open and distance learning, which enables students to pursue higher education alongside personal or professional commitments.
Students were briefed about various undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programmes available at IGNOU, along with guidance on selecting courses aligned with their career goals and interests. The session also covered digital learning platforms, assignment submission processes, and examination schedules.
Officials encouraged students to make informed academic choices and take full advantage of the university’s support system, including study centres, academic counselling sessions, and online resources.
The interactive session saw active participation from students, who raised queries regarding admissions, subject combinations, and future career prospects. Faculty members responded to their concerns and provided clarity on academic planning and progression pathways.
Organisers said the orientation programme is part of IGNOU’s ongoing efforts to strengthen student engagement and ensure effective academic guidance, particularly for learners in remote and semi-urban regions.
The event concluded with an assurance that similar awareness and counselling programmes would continue to be organised to support students in making informed educational decisions and maximising their academic potential.
