IMD forecasts week-long rain spell across J&K

New Delhi, July 13: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a week-long spell of rainfall across large parts of North India including Jammu Kashmir from July 13 to July 19.

According to the All India Weather Summary and Forecast Bulletin issued by the National Weather Forecasting Centre on Monday evening, intermittent monsoon activity is expected to continue across Northwest India during the next seven days. While no heavy rainfall warning has been issued for Haryana in the latest bulletin, light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places across the state throughout the forecast period.
The IMD has indicated that rainfall activity will be more intense in the Himalayan states. Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are likely to experience isolated to scattered rainfall from July 13 to July 17, with conditions becoming fairly widespread to widespread on July 18 and 19.
A MeT official in Srinagar said from July 13-17, there will be generally hot & Humid with brief spell of rain/thundershower at scattered places with brief intense showers at isolated places of Jammu region.
“From July 18-19, the weather would be partly to generally cloudy with a spell of light to moderate Rain/thundershower at many places with brief intense heavy showers at isolated places of Jammu region,” he said.
According to the MeT official from July 20-22, there will be generally cloudy weather with one or two spells of light to moderate Rain/thundershower at many places with heavy rain/brief intense heavy showers at isolated places of Kashmir and Jammu region.
The MeT warned of possibility of heavy rainfall/brief intense heavy showers during 18th late night/19 morning & 20-22 July at few places towards late afternoon hours & early morning/morning hours.
There is a possibility of flash floods/ landslides/mudslides at few vulnerable places of Chenab Valley & PirPanjal Range during 18/19 July & 20-22 July.
People have been advised to stay away from Nallahs, streams & landslide, mudslide prone areas.
