If the Jamal Khashoggi incident is the benchmark, and if allegations made by Canada have any credibility (should Canadians produce indisputable proof), then there will be two kinds of questions for the West, particularly for the United States.
India is trying its every horse in the battle to keep bilateral ties in a good atmosphere with other countries in the world although Pakistan is a major threat to India still there is much diplomatic and other evidence in history where India is trying to maintain a good relation with other countries.
Recently the killing of the Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar of Khalistan supporter was brutally murdered on Canadian soil who was resident of Canada, Justin Trudeau, the prime minister, told parliament his government had seen “credible allegations” that India was responsible for the fatal shooting of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, prominent Canadian Sikh leader. He claimed that there are clear allegations that Indian agencies were involved in this act the relations between India and Canada have worsened and are a threat to many Indians living in Canada for years these are not the only casualties but Indians living there and Bilateral trade and investment opportunities won't be the most enormous casualties. If the Jamal Khashoggi incident is the benchmark, and if allegations made by Canada have any credibility (should Canadians produce indisputable proof), then there will be two kinds of questions for the West, particularly for the United States.
1. How the US deals with Islamic Countries vs. how the US deals with other countries.
2. How partial is West's rule-based order?
For India, the implications are of a scan-the-character nature.
The evidence of the closeness of the two countries is seen historically from the 19th century I will highlight some of the key points about that:
1. Indian migrants began starting to settle near the coasts of Canada in the 19th century
2. India started diplomatic relations with Canada in the year 1947.
3. An aid program to India was started and it grew stronger under the Colombo Plan in 1951
4. Canada supported the Kunda House power project through the Colombo Plan in 1960.
5. Indo-Canadian relations began to crumble in 1974 in ake of India's smiling Buddha nuclear test
6. The bombing by Sikh separatists in 1985 Air India flight 182 resulted in Canada and India holding a dialogue on antiterrorism
7. In 1997 foreign minister i.k Gujral started a new treaty to the nonproliferation.
8. In 2010 nuclear corporation agreement was signed between the two countries which resulted in good bilateral relations between the two countries.
9.2011 is called the year of India in Canada and the year of India was dubbed to Canada.
10. Bilateral relations were elevated to new heights and were converted significantly to partnership.
So we can say there were ups and downs in the relationships between the two countries but on the other hand, India-Canada bilateral ties are underpinned by shared values of democracy, pluralism, expanding economic engagement, regular high-level interactions, and long-standing people-to-people ties the democratic values, the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic and multi-religious nature of two societies and strong people-to-people contacts are the core bandings between the two countries The visit of Indian Prime Minister in 2015 to Canada, elevated the bilateral relation to a Strategic Partnership he further visit of Canadian Prime Minister in 2018, reaffirmed the breadth and scope of Canada-India relations, based on the fundamental principle of respect for sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of the two countries.
India is totally at a loss if it worsens its ties with fellow countries like Canada as Canadian funding supports key organizations active in India including the Micronutrient Initiative, the United Nations Development Program, the United Nations Population Fund, and the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. so the economical and developmental relations between India and Canada are must for India.
