December 03, 2025 | BK News Service

Dirang,Dec 2: In a significant step towards community engagement in high-altitude and border areas, the Indian Army inaugurated its first-ever Community Radio Station in the region, “Radio Dirang, 88.4 FM – Apni Mitti, Apni Kahani,” at Dirang on November 30, 2025. The initiative, led by Lt Gen RC Tiwari, Army Commander Eastern Command, was launched under the aegis of the Gajraj Corps, marking a pioneering effort by the Indian Army in Arunachal Pradesh.

The radio station aims to serve as a grassroots platform for the local population, offering a blend of local news, cultural programming, educational content, and health awareness campaigns. It will also broadcast vital public interest information, including disaster preparedness, government schemes, and updates relevant to border communities.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Tiwari highlighted that “Radio Dirang is more than a broadcasting station; it is a bridge connecting the Indian Army with the local communities. It reflects our commitment to inclusive development, cultural promotion, and education in remote areas.”
The station is designed to empower local voices and provide residents an opportunity to actively participate in content creation. It will showcase regional traditions, folk music, and stories from the community, thereby fostering a sense of identity and pride among residents.
Officials emphasized that the station would also serve as a medium to raise awareness about health, sanitation, and education, while keeping the population informed about safety protocols in high-altitude environments. With its reach extending to remote villages and border outposts, Radio Dirang is expected to play a crucial role in strengthening civil-military relations and enhancing community resilience.
This initiative forms part of the Army’s broader outreach strategy in Arunachal Pradesh and other border regions, aiming to build closer connections with local populations while supporting socio-cultural and developmental objectives.
Local residents and community leaders lauded the launch, expressing optimism that the station will enrich lives by providing timely information, education, and entertainment in a format accessible even in areas with limited digital connectivity.
The launch of Radio Dirang represents a unique model of military-led community engagement, combining strategic outreach with cultural preservation and social development in one of India’s most challenging terrains.
