Indian army mountaineering expedition to MT Kun flagged off from Leh

The Indian Army undertakes a number of adventure activities of various types to encourage the spirit of adventure amongst its personnel. In keeping with this effort and to demonstrate qualities of physical fitness and mental robustness, a mountaineering expedition to the challenging peak of Mt Kun (7077 meters) located in the Ladakh region is being undertaken under the aegis of Army Adventure Wing.
Mt Kun is the second highest peak in the Zanskar Range and is part of the twin summit in the mountain massif Nun-Kun, located in Suru Valley in the rugged landscape of Zanskar. It is acknowledged as a formidable test of technical expertise and endurance.
Lieutenant General YK Joshi, General Officer Commanding Fire and Fury Corps flagged off the expedition today. The 23 member team comprises of 15 officers including 10 women officers, one Junior Commission Officer and seven Other Ranks. Lieutenant General YK Joshi interacted with the team members and wished them fair weather and a successful summit. The team will attempt to summit Mt Kun on 12 August 2019 as per plans .
This is the first Indian Army expedition to Mt Kun which includes women officers. Comprising of experienced mountaineers, the team underwent rigourous training at the Army Mountaineering Institute at Siachen Base Camp, as part of their preparation for the expedition.
