Bishnupur, Manipur: In a significant step towards promoting digital empowerment and education in the Northeast, the Indian Army has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Computer Training Centre at Lamging Meira Maheikol School in Saiton village, Bishnupur district of Manipur. The initiative, developed under Operation Sadbhavna, aims to enhance digital literacy among local youth and equip them with vital IT skills, fostering self-reliance and future employment opportunities.
The newly inaugurated training centre is affiliated with the All India Society for Electronics and Computer Technology (AISECT), a nationally recognized organization in the field of computer education and vocational training. It will offer structured certification programs of three, six, and twelve months, designed to provide students with a strong foundation in digital tools, applications, and modern technology relevant to today's job market.
This facility is the latest in a growing network of digital learning hubs established by the Indian Army across Manipur. In the past two years, the Army has launched 11 such centres across various districts in the state as part of its broader effort to bridge the digital divide and support skill development in remote and conflict-affected regions.
Speaking at the inauguration, Army officials highlighted the transformative potential of such centres in improving access to education, promoting peace, and enabling economic opportunities for underprivileged youth. Local community leaders and school authorities also praised the initiative, calling it a timely and much-needed intervention to empower the younger generation.
The Indian Army's ongoing commitment through Operation Sadbhavna reflects its dual role—not only in maintaining security but also in contributing meaningfully to nation-building through education, development, and community outreach in sensitive regions like Manipur.
