A four-month-old infant died and two women were rescued after they fell into a fast-flowing stream while crossing a makeshift wooden bridge in Mughal Maidan area of Kishtwar district.

Locals said the victims lost balance while crossing a temporary bridge made from a tree trunk. Rescue teams and police rushed to the spot and saved both women, but the infant was swept away and later recovered dead.
The incident sparked protests in the area, with residents demanding construction of a permanent bridge, noting that the original structure was washed away in floods last year.
Locals also sought compensation for the bereaved family.
