Srinagar, Aug 1: The injured non-local labourer from Chattisgarh, who suffered critical bullet wounds in a targeted terror attack on Friday evening in south Kashmir’s Kulgam, succumbed to injuries on Saturday morning in a Srinagar hospital, taking the death toll to two.
The deceased was identified as Bhopendra, 30, from Chhattisgarh.
He was shifted to SKIMS Soura on Friday night with chest injuries and later succumbed.
Earlier, another non-local worker, identified as Deepak from Chhattisgarh, was shot dead in the terror attack in Kulgam’s Kelam area.
The terrorists on Friday evening opened fire on two non-local workers working at a brick kiln in Kulgam.
Security forces are continuing search operations in parts of south Kashmir to track down the attackers.
Meanwhile, security has been stepped up across Srinagar and parts of south Kashmir following the terror attack in Kulgam, with additional checkpoints established and search operations continuing to trace the attackers.
A senior security official said enhanced checking and frisking have been introduced at multiple locations across Srinagar, particularly along entry and exit points and on the city’s outskirts.
Security personnel are conducting thorough inspections of vehicles and commuters at newly established checkpoints.
Surveillance has also been strengthened around vital installations, major road corridors and key intersections. Random vehicle checks and identity verification drives are being carried out at several locations as part of heightened security measures.
In south Kashmir, security forces have increased deployment and intensified area domination, especially in and around Kulgam district, where a cordon and search operation is underway to track down those responsible for the attack.
Officials said the enhanced security arrangements are aimed at maintaining public safety and preventing any further untoward incidents in the Valley.
“All necessary steps are being taken to prevent any untoward incident and to bring the perpetrators to justice,” a senior officials said.
