
Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakeena Itoo, underscored the importance of strengthening preventive and curative healthcare systems for the elderly, especially as diabetes has become a significant health concern among this population. She made these remarks during the inaugural session of the 1st Annual MMFDIACON25 International Endocrinology Conference at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar.
The conference, focusing on "Elders Deserve Better: Diabetes and its Complications in the Elderly," brought together experts from various fields to address the challenges of managing diabetes in the elderly. Minister Itoo highlighted the need for compassionate care, early diagnosis, and collaborative treatment strategies, stressing that diabetes in the elderly is both a medical and social issue.
The conference featured national and international experts who discussed topics such as diabetic nephropathy, sarcopenia, stroke management, and diabetic foot challenges in the elderly. Scientific sessions included virtual lectures from Dr. John Ebnezar and Dr. M.A. Mazaid, with contributions from experts across disciplines. Additionally, senior citizens were felicitated for their contributions to society, and awards were given for best posters and free papers.
The event was organized by GMC Srinagar in collaboration with the Department of Endocrinology at Super Speciality Hospital, MMF Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies on Ageing, and Moul Mouj Foundation.
