J&K Budget Session from Feb 2

January 30, 2026 | SHUGUFTA RASHID

Srinagar, Jan 29: The Jammu and Kashmir assembly is set to convene its second budget session from February 2 to April 4 in 27 sittings at Jammu. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the budget on February 6. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha will address the assembly on February 2, following cabinet discussion on January 22.

Opposition parties are preparing to raise governance issues and hold the government accountable for unfulfilled election promises. The BJP plans to question the government on regularisation of daily wagers, flood reconstruction, establishment of a National Law University in Jammu, and other basic governance matters. Congress, allied with the ruling National Conference, will also highlight public interest issues. The PDP intends to focus on unemployment, filling vacant government posts, and promises of free gas cylinders and 200 units of electricity.
Ahead of the session, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah held consultations with legislators from both the ruling and opposition parties, as well as departmental officers. This will be the fifth assembly sitting since the Omar-led government assumed office on October 16, 2024.
