Jammu, May 20: The State Election Commission (SEC), Jammu and Kashmir, has completed the annual revision of Panchayat Electoral Rolls with the publication of the Final Electoral Rolls 2026, setting April 1, 2026 as the qualifying date for voter eligibility.
The revision exercise began with the release of draft rolls on March 27, 2026, followed by a structured 40-day window for filing claims and objections, which concluded on May 5. All submissions were scrutinised and disposed of by Electoral Registration Officers by May 14, paving the way for the final publication of rolls on May 21, 2026.
According to official data, the final rolls reflect a substantial expansion of the electorate. A total of 3,39,384 new voters were added, while 1,13,344 names were removed due to death, migration, duplication, or other valid reasons. Additionally, corrections were made in 17,664 entries and 31,590 voters were transposed. The updated electoral roll now stands at 72,24,131 voters, comprising 36,62,502 males, 35,61,488 females, and 141 third-gender electors.
The SEC noted that the net increase of 2,26,040 voters compared to the 2025 revision reflects growing voter participation and improved enrolment outreach across the Union Territory.
During the revision period, as many as 5,10,285 forms were received and processed through Panchayat Election Booth Officials, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers, and Electoral Registration Officers, following prescribed procedures and timelines.
To ensure maximum coverage, the Commission carried out extensive Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaigns. These included radio jingles, newspaper advertisements, voter appeals by the State Election Commissioner, as well as awareness drives through hoardings and mobile vans at district level.
State Election Commissioner Shantmanu appreciated the coordinated efforts of district officials, electoral staff, the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Department, and political party representatives in ensuring the smooth completion of the exercise. He also acknowledged public participation, particularly the enthusiastic response from youth, who contributed significantly to the large number of new registrations.
Officials said the updated electoral rolls will serve as the foundation for upcoming Panchayat elections in the Union Territory, strengthening grassroots democracy and local governance.
