
Jammu, Feb 16: The J&K government announced a survey on drug abuse in 10 districts, alongside launching the “Circle of Care” programme to deploy de-addiction counsellors in every village.
Minister for Health Sakina Itoo said 600 counsellors have been trained, and the government plans to expand inpatient addiction treatment and long-term rehabilitation facilities. J&K currently has 21 functional Addiction Treatment Facilities, providing 1.5 lakh patient consultations. A new drug de-addiction bill and rules are also in the pipeline.
The Minister highlighted food safety initiatives, noting 19,115 inspections were conducted in 2025–26, with 57 tonnes of unsafe food seized and destroyed, 1,007 prosecutions initiated, and 3,463 awareness camps conducted across the Union Territory
