Srinagar, May 2: The Meteorological Department on Saturday said Jammu and Kashmir will continue to witness changing weather conditions over the next few days, with spells of rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds expected across several areas.
Director MeT Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said scattered places are likely to receive light rain and thundershowers on May 2, mainly during the afternoon hours, accompanied by strong winds.
He said that on May 3 and 4, weather will remain generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain or thundershowers at many locations. At a few places, thunderstorms, hailstorms and winds reaching 40–50 kmph may occur during different parts of the day.
On May 5, brief spells of light rain or thundershowers are likely at scattered places, mostly in the afternoon.
From May 6 to 9, weather conditions are expected to improve with mostly dry conditions, though isolated showers cannot be ruled out. Between May 10 and 12, the region is likely to remain largely dry with only occasional light rain in isolated areas during the afternoon.
The MeT Department has also issued an advisory warning of possible hailstorms and gusty winds in parts of Central and North Kashmir as well as some areas of Jammu division.
It has advised suspension of boating and shikara operations during afternoon and evening hours on May 3 and 4. Residents have been urged to avoid open areas near weak structures, electric poles and overhead wires during adverse weather, while farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural activities between May 3 and 5 as a precaution.
