J&K to witness wet spell till Aug 19: MeT

Srinagar, Aug 9: The Meteorological Department has forecast a prolonged spell of rain and thundershowers across Jammu and Kashmir till 19 with intense showers and the possibility of flash floods in vulnerable areas.

A MeT official said from August 9-11, most places are expected to receive light to moderate rain and thundershowers.
“However, a few districts of Jammu division may witness heavy to very heavy rainfall. Kashmir division is also likely to see brief but intense heavy showers at isolated places. Peak activity is expected on August 11,” he said.
He said from August 12-16, the weather is likely to remain partly cloudy with light rain and thundershowers at many places. “Brief intense showers may occur at a few locations.”
According to MeT official, from August 17-19, fresh spells of light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places, along with brief intense heavy showers at some spots.
The MeT has warned of heavy rain and brief intense showers at a few districts between August 9-11. “There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain at one or two districts in Jammu region during the night of August 11”.
The MeT has cautioned that torrential rain and intense showers may trigger flash floods, landslides in vulnerable areas, and waterlogging in low-lying regions.
