Srinagar, Mar 4: The Jammu & Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to take urgent measures to ensure the safety of Indian students stranded in Iran amid escalating airstrikes and hostilities.
In a statement, JKSA National Convenor Nasir Khuehami said the association has received numerous distress calls from parents of Kashmiri students studying in cities such as Qom, Urmia and Arak. He said students are living in an atmosphere of fear due to repeated explosions and missile attacks, with some residing near sensitive locations. The intensity of blasts has reportedly shaken residential buildings, leaving students anxious and psychologically distressed.
The Association appealed for immediate evacuation of Indian students or their relocation to safer areas until the situation stabilises, stating that such action would bring immense relief to worried families.
JKSA also appreciated the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in Tehran for relocating several students from affected areas of Tehran to Qom through special transport arrangements. However, it expressed concern that reports of fresh explosions near Qom have once again heightened panic among students.
Given the rapidly deteriorating security situation, the Association urged the Government of India to closely monitor developments and prepare contingency plans to safeguard students at the earliest. It expressed hope that swift and proactive steps would ensure their safety and reassure anxious families back home.
