JKTPO holds export awareness workshop in Srinagar

Srinagar, June 16: Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO) organized a One-Day Workshop on Export Awareness-cum-E-Commerce Onboarding Drive on India- European Free Trade Agreement in Srinagar as part of its activities for the financial year 2026–27.

The programme was conducted in collaboration with the District Administration Srinagar, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), the Government e-Marketplace (GeM), and other stakeholder institutions.
The workshop aimed to equip Mission YUVA entrepreneurs, MSMEs, artisans, Self-Help Groups (SHGs), and aspiring exporters with practical knowledge on export procedures, government support schemes, market access opportunities, and the benefits of digital commerce. Special emphasis was laid on emerging opportunities under the proposed India–European Union Free Trade Agreement (FTA), with participants sensitized to the prospects of enhanced access to European markets and the need to improve quality standards, packaging, and export readiness.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest, Masrat-ul-Islam, Director, Handicrafts and Handloom Department, Kashmir, appreciated JKTPO's efforts towards strengthening the export ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir. He highlighted the Department's initiatives in design innovation, quality enhancement, and the promotion of GI-tagged products, while emphasizing the immense global potential of Srinagar's renowned handicrafts, particularly Kashmiri Silk Carpets, the district's flagship product under the ODOP initiative. The programme was also attended by officers of JKTPO, the Industries and Commerce Department, and other line departments.
During the technical sessions, Maqbool Shah, Senior Consultant, GeM, briefed participants on seller registration and business opportunities available through the Government e-Marketplace.
Ullas Kumar, Branch Manager, ECGC, explained export credit insurance and risk mitigation mechanisms for exporters. Joining virtually, Kiran Patel from Amazon Karigar shared insights on leveraging e-commerce platforms, digital marketing, and online branding to expand market reach.
The workshop witnessed participation from over 120 entrepreneurs, including Mission YUVA beneficiaries from Srinagar district, who actively engaged with experts and expressed keen interest in exploring export opportunities and onboarding their products onto digital platforms.
The initiative forms part of JKTPO's ongoing efforts under the Districts as Export Hubs (DEH) Scheme and the One District One Product (ODOP) Initiative to strengthen Jammu & Kashmir's export ecosystem, improve market access for local producers, and integrate them with national and global value chains.
