Mumbai, Feb 28 – A delegation of journalists from across India visited the Indian Institute of Creative Technology (IICT) on Friday as part of a press tour organized by the Press Information Bureau, gaining a first-hand look at the country’s emerging centre of excellence for Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR).
Established in September 2024 with a one-time budget of ₹391.15 crore, IICT operates under a public-private partnership model with FICCI and CII. The institute aims to meet growing industry demand by developing skilled professionals for India’s “Orange Economy,” offering 18 specialised programmes and supporting eight startup ventures at its campus. A permanent 10-acre facility is under development at Film City, Goregaon.
During the visit, IICT COO Ninad Raikar highlighted the institute’s vision, industry collaborations, and its hands-on pedagogy blending conceptual learning with studio exposure to produce industry-ready graduates. Journalists toured animation labs, VFX suites, gaming and immersive technology studios, and the Photogrammetry Studio, observing AI-assisted short films and 3D scanning demonstrations.
Faculty and students engaged with the media delegation, showcasing industry-aligned training that prepares students for careers in film, gaming, digital advertising, and immersive storytelling. The visit concluded with a Q&A session, reflecting IICT’s transformative role in shaping India’s creative technology landscape under the guidance of Ashwini Vaishnaw.
