July 27, 2025 | BK News Service

In a stirring tribute to Kargil hero Captain Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), the Assam Rifles commemorated the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas in Kohima with a symbolic and heartfelt Bike Rally, reaffirming the spirit of patriotism and collective remembrance.
Over 80 bikers, representing local biking clubs, student organisations, civil society, and security personnel, rode in unison from the Assam Rifles Garrison Helipad to the War Memorial at Nerhema — the hometown of Capt. Kenguruse. The event served not only as a commemoration of his supreme sacrifice but also as a platform to inspire youth and remind the public of the human cost of defending the nation.
The rally culminated at the War Memorial with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony. Emotions ran high as veterans, serving personnel, local dignitaries, students, and citizens paid floral tributes, observed a moment of silence, and shared stories about the gallantry of Capt. Kenguruse — a symbol of Nagaland’s contribution to national security.
Capt. Kenguruse, a native of Nerhema village, was martyred during the Kargil War in 1999 while displaying extraordinary bravery in the face of enemy fire. He was posthumously awarded the Maha Vir Chakra, India’s second-highest gallantry award in wartime, and remains one of the most revered military figures from the Northeast.
Speaking at the event, senior officers of Assam Rifles highlighted the significance of remembering national heroes and encouraging youth to learn from their valor. “This is not just a tribute. It's a call for unity, resilience, and national pride,” said a commanding officer.
The rally reflected a sense of pride and community bonding, with the participation of women riders, students holding placards, and bands performing patriotic songs. Local leaders and the family members of Capt. Kenguruse expressed gratitude to Assam Rifles for honouring the brave son of Nagaland in such a meaningful way.
The event concluded with a cultural performance and the reading of excerpts from Capt. Kenguruse’s military service, leaving the crowd deeply moved and inspired.
Assam Rifles has been at the forefront of engaging with communities in the Northeast, and such initiatives continue to strengthen civil-military ties while keeping alive the legacy of heroes like Capt. Neikezhakuo Kenguruse.
