Kashmir has long been a point of difference between India and Pakistan, with both countries claiming sovereignty over the province. Pakistan has often attempted to erode Indian authority over Kashmir by internationalising the problem, but tenacious people of Kashmir have constantly demonstrated a strong resistance to these efforts. The possibilities for a peaceful and prosperous Kashmir under Indian rule have improved recently, while Pakistan's agenda in the region has grown more precarious. The historical background, current circumstance, and potential outcomes in Kashmir in support of the Indian Government and the Indian Army are all covered in this article.

The Kashmir issue dates back to 1947, when tribal militias backed by Pakistan tried to invade the princely state of Jammu and Kashmir. As a result of this aggressiveness, Jammu and Kashmir's Maharaja Hari Singh requested aid from India which resulted in the signing of the Instrument of Accession that formally incorporated the area into India. After the issue was brought before the UN, there was a temporary ceasefire and the creation of the Line of Control (LoC), today which is known as the ceasefire line.
Another important event in Kashmir's history was the Kargil War in 1999.
In Kargil, which lies in Jammu and Kashmir's northern region, Pakistani military activities to sneak troops into Indian Territory led to a significant conflict. A military conflict resulted from the international outcry against Pakistan's aggressiveness. After significant losses on both sides, the fighting came to a close with the removal of Pakistani soldiers from the area. The Kargil War exacerbated tensions between India and Pakistan and exposed the peril of using force to change the situation in Kashmir. Now the greater current threat ie: The Ongoing situation in which Pakistan supports separatist groups in the Kashmir Valley till this day, which keeps fueling terrorism. In the past this led to widespread violence and fatalities that both the local Kashmiri populace and the Indian security forces had to deal with since decades. Periods of extreme violence were experienced, particularly in the 1980s and 1990s when militancy peaked. Despite these difficulties, the Indian government remained steadfast that Kashmir was an essential component of India.
Pakistan's Kashmir policy has suffered major setbacks in recent years on a number of fronts. The majority of the world's nations have accepted that India and Pakistan's issue over Kashmir is a bilateral one, and they have refrained from becoming involved. This has dealt Pakistan's attempts to globalise the problem a serious blow. Now that India has throttled its initiatives to support regional development and economic growth, which have begun to produce promising outcomes especially after Article 370, which granted Jammu and Kashmir special autonomy status, was repealed in August 2019, the area is now more accessible for large-scale investments and development initiatives. This action has also made it easier to improve governance and to give Kashmir's residents access to Indian laws and benefits.
Also, the people of Kashmir have responded strongly to Pakistan's corrupt intentions. Many Kashmiris have chosen to express themselves peacefully rather than through violence. With a high voter participation in local elections, they actively participated in the political process and showed their belief in Indian democracy. The involvement in the Kashmir issue has been complex, fraught with difficulties, and motivated by an unwavering dedication to re-establishing peace and stability in the area. The Indian Army has been instrumental in maintaining civil order and offering humanitarian aid to the Kashmiri populace during times of unrest or natural calamities. The Indian Army has responded to instances of civil unrest in a deliberate manner, with a priority on protecting civilian lives and property. The Army's dedication to the welfare of the Kashmiri people has been demonstrated through humanitarian assistance in the form of medical camps, relief operations during natural catastrophes, and community outreach initiatives. The Indian Army has actively taken part in infrastructure building initiatives to better the socio-economic circumstances in Kashmir as well.
In addition to improving communication, the building of roads, bridges, and other essential infrastructure has allowed for the growth and economic activity of isolated locations. In addition to this, the army has played a significant role in the establishment of healthcare facilities, vocational training centres, and educational institutions in the area. The Indian Army has taken a number of confidence-boosting tactics in recognition of the significance of capturing the hearts and minds of the local populace. The youth's sense of belonging has been cultivated through interaction with local communities, including organising sporting events and cultural programmes. The goal of programmes like the "Sadbhavana" (Goodwill) projects was to foster trust and a favourable view of the Indian Army among Kashmiris which has proved to be very positive. The professionalism and devotion of the Indian Army to the well-being of the Kashmiri people are demonstrated by its commitment to maintaining peace in the region. The Army has continually tried to stabilise the situation, promote development, and cultivate a sense of security among the local populace despite the difficulties and complexity of the territory and to achieve long-lasting peace in Kashmir, a comprehensive Strategy encompassing diplomatic efforts, resolution, and on-going community participation would be necessary in moving forward. Even while Pakistan's purpose in Kashmir may have faded, the tenacity of Kashmiri society, combined with India's efforts to encourage development and dialogue, has improved the prospects for a peaceful and prosperous future for the region under Indian sovereignty. All sides must continue to pursue a peaceful solution that respects the aspirations of the people of Kashmir and ensures the region's long-term stability and development as part of India.
Now, there has been a clear shift in the narrative in recent years, as the people of Kashmir have shown a favourable attitude towards India. This shift reflects the region's shifting sociopolitical context as well and the emphasis on economic development is one of the primary elements contributing to the upbeat outlook. Of all the initiatives undertaken by Indian government, it has aimed at boosting the region's infrastructure and economy. For example, the building of roads, tunnels, and bridges has not only made transportation easier, but it has also increased prospects for trade and tourism. Kashmir's young are rapidly becoming a major factor behind this optimistic perspective as now they are actively engaging in numerous educational and vocational programmes, which have provided them with opportunities for a better future. Furthermore, efforts like as skill development programmes and entrepreneurial possibilities have fostered self-sufficiency among the youth.
Lastly, the repeal of Article 370 in August 2019, which accorded Jammu and Kashmir special status, was a crucial step towards merger with the rest of India. While the judgement elicited mixed emotions at first, it has subsequently cleared the road for equal rights and opportunities for the people of Kashmir, fostering a sense of solidarity among varied communities. As a result of the attempts that has been made via conversation and diplomacy bring peace to the region, India has continuously stated its intention to settling difficulties peacefully, which has been welcomed by many in Kashmir leading to an optimistic change in Kashmir's attitude towards India reflects the region's shifting dynamics. While obstacles continue, the emphasis on economic growth, youth participation, cultural interchange, and peace efforts is instilling hope and optimism in the people. The route to a more unified and prosperous Kashmir is still long, but it is well begun.
