
Heart surgeries conducted at only 3 places: Dr Zubair Rasheed
With more than 60 lakh population, Kashmir is having three facilities where heart surgeries are being conducted.
This was disclosed by renowned specialist and cardiac Surgeon Dr Zubair Rasheed on Sunday who said that to cater to a population of over 60 lakh population in Kashmir, heart surgeries are done only at three hospitals.
“Unfortunately, even after seeing a huge rush of heart patients in the Valley, there are only three hospitals that actually are able to treat the heart ailment patients,” Dr Zubair told Brighter Kashmir.
He said that Kashmir’s foremost hospital SKIMS, Noora Hospital and Khyber Hospital are the three major hospitals where heart ailments patients are operated upon.
Hailing from south Kashmir district Anantnag, Cardiac Surgeon Dr. Zubair Rasheed, who was posted outside the valley, returned in April last year. He is currently posted at Noora Hospital.
Dr. Zubair has done Doctorate of National Board (DNB) in Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) and is Diplomate of National Board (DNB) in General Surgery; Fellowship of Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (FIAGES)/FMAS; FALS (Fellowship in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery)Upper G.I.; Certification In Interventional Bronchoscopy & Thoracoscopy.(IMAST); M.B.B.S.; Post Graduate Diploma in Disaster Preparedness & Rehab.(Indian Red Cross); Member of Society of Heart Failure and Transplant. (SHfT); Member of Indian Association of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons (IACTS)(lndia); Member of Association of Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgeons (ACTS) Asia; Member of Vascular Society of India (VSE); Member of Pediatric Cardiac Society of India (PCSI); Member of Association of Surgeons of India (ASI); Member of National Academy of Medical Sciences (MNAMS).
He said that heart bypass surgery is the most common surgery in heart ailments. “Bypass surgery is not even easily done in SKIMS. And the cost is high too,” Dr. Zubair said.
He said that a heart surgery costs around Rs. 5 lakh outside the Kashmir valley. “At our Noor Hospital, we are doing it almost for free with the help of a Golden Card,” Dr. Zubair said.
He said that at Noora Hospital they have also started heart bypass surgeries for the people that come from humble backgrounds.
Dr Zubair was married to a young-energetic doctor Dr. Mehfooza. However, she died at a young age due to Dengue. In her memory, he dedicates one day to patient care wherein free consultation is provided to all at the clinic
