
There were breaches in river Jehlum bund due to heavy rains at Budgam’s Shalina and Zoonipora area during the early hours on Thursday, inundating the large area.
In the wee hours flood waters entered Shalina, Rakh Shalina, and Baghi Shakirshah villages due to the breach in the River Jhelum bund near village Zoonipora.
The residents of these villages were evacuated during the night to designated rescue centers and safer locations.
Following the breach at Shalina in Budgam, and as a preemptive & precautionary measure, district administration Srinagar advised residents of Lasjan, Soiteng, Nowgam, Vyethpora, Golpora, Padshahibagh, Mehjoornagar to evacuate these areas and move to safer places.
Besides, announcements through local committees, Masjids and local revenue & police authorities in these areas were made asking the local population to move to safer places.
Meanwhile, public has been appealed to stay alert and not to panic
In view of breach in the River Jhelum bund near village Zoonipora, Budgam, and following inundation of nearby areas, district administration Budgam apprehends deluge in Seerbagh and Summerbugh villages of Budgam and as such has actively engaged teams for relocating people from these areas to safety.
It has requested people from these areas to move to safer areas till the water level recedes.
The district administration Budgam has activated 6 rescue centers in the affected area, namely GHS Wagoora, GHSS Khandah, Sheikh-ul-Alam HS Wagoora, GHSS BK Pora, Islamic Public HS Kralpora, and Dar-ul-Fatah Dangerpora.
“Our entire manpower and machinery is on the ground. Adequate numbers of rescue teams led by SDRF, NDRF, Police, and Revenue officials are stationed at the site and carrying out relief and rescue operations,” said an official.
He said citizens are advised to remain cautious and not to panic. All necessary measures are being taken to ensure safety and protection of life and property.
