
The Valley is under the grip of intense cold wave conditions with Srinagar experiencing its coldest night of the season at -6.0 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
A MeT official said the night temperature in Srinagar dropped to -6.0 degrees Celsius today.
“This temperature is 4.0°C below the average for this time of year in Srinagar. The previous lowest temperature recorded in Srinagar this season was -5.4°C on December 10,” he said.
Due to intense cold, interior parts of Dal Lake and water taps in many areas froze due to the impact of the freezing temperature.
“The cold wave will continue at isolated to scattered places of the valley with overall no significant change in the weather till December 26,” the MeT office said.
He said a feeble Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to hit and can cause light snow over the few higher reaches towards the late event of December 27 night to morning of December 28.
The MeT official said Pahalgam remained the coldest place in the Valley with night temperature plummeting to minus 6.8°C today as against the minus 5.8°C recorded during the previous night.
“The minimum temperature at Qazigund was recorded at minus 7.0°C as against the minus 5.0°C on Wednesday. Kokernag recorded a low of minus 5.3°C,” he said.
In the ski resort of Gulmarg, the night temperature settled at minus 5.0°C.
In Kupwara, night temperature dropped to minus 6.2°C as against the minus 4.4°C recorded the previous night.
