Kashmir intensifies Pulse Polio drive across districts

Budgam/Baramulla/Shopian/Bandipora, June 28: Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday launched a widespread Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization (IPPI) campaign across multiple districts, aiming to achieve 100 percent coverage of children in the 0–5 years age group.

Budgam

Deputy Commissioner Athar Aamir Khan kick-started the programme at District Hospital Budgam by administering polio drops to children. He said the district has established 628 vaccination booths along with transit and mela booths to ensure full coverage of the targeted 1,22,477 children. He added that door-to-door vaccination will follow to cover any missed children, and urged parents to actively participate in the drive.

Baramulla

Chief Planning Officer Nisar Ahmad inaugurated the campaign at UPHC Old Town Bagh-e-Islam. Officials said around 1.64 lakh children will be covered under the drive. CMO Dr. A.G. Raina stressed community participation and appealed to parents to ensure no child is left out.

Shopian

Additional District Development Commissioner Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone launched the programme at District Hospital Shopian by administering OPV drops to a newborn. He highlighted the importance of achieving complete vaccination coverage and appreciated frontline health workers for their efforts.

Bandipora

Deputy Commissioner Indu Kanwal Chib inaugurated the campaign at NTPHC Quil Muqam and reviewed district preparedness. She said 338 booths have been established to cover more than 61,000 children and directed health officials to ensure saturation coverage through booth-based and door-to-door rounds.
Across all districts, health departments have mobilized medical teams, ASHA workers, ICDS staff and volunteers to ensure smooth execution of the campaign. Officials reiterated that the drive is a crucial step towards maintaining a polio-free Jammu and Kashmir and urged parents to cooperate fully with vaccination teams.
