Cold conditions have intensified across Kashmir, with the entire Valley recording sub-zero minimum temperatures. Srinagar experienced its coldest night of the season on Wednesday, as the mercury dropped to minus 4.4°C, down from minus 3.9°C the previous day.
The Valley has been witnessing a steady decline in night temperatures over the past few days. South Kashmir’s Konibal in Pulwama district recorded the lowest temperature so far at minus 5.5°C, while Kokernag registered minus 1.6°C. The popular tourist resort of Pahalgam saw a low of minus 5°C, and Gulmarg recorded minus 1°C.
Other areas also experienced severe cold: Qazigund, the gateway to the Valley, recorded minus 4°C, and Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded minus 4.4°C. The plunge in temperatures has led to frost formation on roads, rooftops, and vehicles, while water supply pipes have frozen in several localities.
The Meteorological Department has forecast mainly dry weather across the Valley until December 2, but has warned of a further drop in night temperatures, urging residents to take precautions against the worsening cold.
