Kashmir University is grappling with serious administrative and academic challenges as a large number of key posts remain vacant across its main and satellite campuses, insiders informed.
Insiders holding top positions informed the news agency Kashmir News Trust that crucial positions, including Director Physical Education, Director IT and SS, Director DIQA, Director South Campus, Director Kupwara Campus, Director Convocation Complex and Director Zakura Campus have been lying vacant for a long period. These positions are currently being managed by senior professors as additional assignments which, according to insiders, affect their teaching and research responsibilities.
The post of Additional Controller of Examinations is also unfilled. More than 12 posts of Assistant Registrars remain vacant despite applications having been submitted by candidates, with no progress in recruitment for unknown reasons. Two posts of Public Relations Officer in the university and Convocation Complex also continue to remain vacant.
Two Deputy Director positions at the Directorate of Physical Education and Sports and one Deputy Registrar post are vacant. The post of Deputy Director DIQA, along with two Assistant Director DIQA posts and the Additional Controller of Examinations, are also yet to be filled. One Deputy Registrar post each at North and South Campus is lying vacant which insiders say is impacting administrative efficiency.
The Construction Division is functioning without three Junior Engineers and two Work Supervisors. Around 200 employees are expected to superannuate within two years, raising further concerns about the university’s capacity to function smoothly.
Eight positions of Assistant Librarian at Allama Iqbal Library are vacant, while 90 posts of Junior Assistants remain unfilled which has compelled many Heads of Departments to manage clerical work on their own. Five posts of Laboratory Assistant in science departments, one post of Landscape Supervisor, one Curator in the Zoology Department, one Lecture Assistant, ten Technical Assistants and two posts of Scientist in various science departments are also lying vacant.
Senior faculty members said the prolonged delay in recruitment has adversely impacted academic, administrative and developmental activities and urged the authorities to expedite the filling of all vacant posts at the earliest.
