Kashmir World Film Festival: Celebrating 5 years of cinema, culture & collaboration

September 20, 2025 | BK News Service

The much-awaited Kashmir World Film Festival (KWFF) is set to return for its 5th edition, scheduled to take place from 1st to 7th November 2025 in the picturesque Kashmir Valley. A celebration of global cinema, KWFF continues to serve as a vital platform for cultural exchange, artistic collaboration, and cinematic excellence.

Since its inception in 2017, KWFF has played a pivotal role in highlighting Kashmir’s rich cultural heritage while amplifying the voices of emerging filmmakers from the region. The upcoming edition marks a significant milestone and promises an expanded and diverse lineup featuring international films, panel discussions, workshops, and cultural programs, all aimed at fostering dialogue and unity through the power of storytelling.
“We are thrilled to mark the 5th edition of KWFF,” said Mushtaaque Ali Ahmad Khan, Founder of KWFF. “It’s a significant milestone, and we are committed to continuing our mission of providing a platform for both local and global filmmakers. The power of cinema brings people together, and we look forward to creating an inclusive and vibrant space for cultural exchange and creative expression.”
The festival will present a curated selection of films spanning multiple genres—drama, documentary, animation, and experimental cinema—offering audiences an immersive experience. Alongside film screenings, the festival will host filmmaker interactions, industry expert sessions, and a prestigious awards ceremony recognizing excellence in categories such as:
Staying true to its roots, KWFF 2025 will maintain a strong focus on regional cinema, with a dedicated emphasis on works by Kashmiri filmmakers. As part of this focus, the festival will host:
A Women’s Film Day highlighting women-centric stories and issues
A Children’s Film Day curated for younger audiences
KWFF remains a crucial platform for local storytellers, offering them a global stage while contributing to the growth of both Indian and international film industries.
The festival continues to collaborate with esteemed institutions such as the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC), Mumbai and the Film & Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune.
“Their ongoing support is integral to KWFF’s success. This year, we’re also excited to welcome some of Bollywood’s most celebrated actors and filmmakers. Their participation further elevates the festival’s profile and attracts a wider audience,” added Khan.
With a mission to nurture future filmmakers, KWFF has conducted workshops and masterclasses that have benefitted over 550 students from colleges and universities across Kashmir. These initiatives aim to bridge the gap between local talent and the global film community by providing hands-on training and mentorship.
In a region where cinema infrastructure is limited, KWFF offers a rare opportunity for the people of Kashmir—especially the youth—to experience world-class cinema and interact with global storytellers. This year, the festival is also aligned with the vision of Mahatma Gandhi, promoting peace, inclusivity, and hope through creative expression.
Launched in July 2017, the Kashmir World Film Festival has emerged as a pioneering cultural platform, connecting Kashmir with the international film fraternity. Beyond film screenings, it plays a transformative role in revitalizing the cultural landscape of the region, promoting regional voices, and fostering global artistic collaboration through the universal language of cinema.
