
New Delhi, Mar 6: Several candidates with Kashmiri backgrounds have featured in the final results of the Civil Services Examination 2025 declared by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), which has recommended 958 candidates for appointment to various services including the IAS, IFS and IPS.
According to the official list released by the commission, candidates with Kashmiri surnames such as Towseef Ahmad Ganaie, Muneeb Afzal Parrah, Mohammed Ashmil Shah and Irfan Ahmed Lone are among those recommended for appointment to the civil services.
The results follow the written examination held in August 2025 and personality test interviews conducted between December 2025 and February 2026.
UPSC stated that the 958 recommended candidates will be appointed across different services, including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and other Central Group A and Group B services.
Category-wise, the selected candidates include 317 from the General category, 104 from Economically Weaker Sections (EWS), 306 from Other Backward Classes (OBC), 158 from Scheduled Castes (SC) and 73 from Scheduled Tribes (ST).
The commission has also maintained a consolidated reserve list of 258 candidates as per the rules governing the examination.
According to official data, the government had reported 1,087 vacancies for this examination cycle, including 180 in IAS, 55 in IFS, 150 in IPS, 507 in Central Services Group A and 195 in Group B services.
UPSC said that the reservation claims of recommended candidates will be verified by the concerned authorities. It also noted that the candidature of 348 recommended candidates remains provisional, while the results of two candidates have been withheld.
The Civil Services Examination, conducted annually by UPSC, is among the country’s most competitive examinations and serves as the primary gateway to India’s top administrative, police and diplomatic services.
