According to Psychology, behind every human action there is an intention that arise and process inside human mind and body only manifest those intentions through various channels and through proper coordination like in the form of sound, act, anger etc
“Violence…Violence…Violence! "I don't like it, I avoid it, but violence likes me," says a popular and viral dialogue from the K.G.F film, which is now widely available and has had an impact on people's lives both digitally and physically. Its promoters are youngsters, who use their social media connections to spread the word about it. However, why is it that anyone engages in any act? Why does someone post on social media? Our behavioral science replies to all of these problems and tries to deliver more genuine answers.
According to Psychology, behind every human action there is an intention that arise and process inside human mind and body only manifest those intentions through various channels and through proper coordination like in the form of sound, act, anger etc. So, basically as per psychology man’s real essence is intention, body is only an interface that perceives, retains and recalls various intentions. The relation between body and intention is like that of a hardware and software or that of a farmer and his land.Hardware instructs and manifests what software reflects. Just like hardware can’t function independently and is dependent on the software so does the human body or if we will look at the farmer-land relationship, land can’t produce fruits if the farmer sows the thorns.
In this virtual world, where we no longer have to beg for information as our forefathers did because information now travels in waves and circulates about us seeking our attention, we must choose between vice and virtue. However, no matter how much knowledge we have, life without guidance always leads to vices. So, being virtuous or knowledgeable does not imply having a mind brimming with knowledge, but rather being under the protection of a wise and virtuous person. We live in a technological age that has transformed us from realistic to emulation beings. Nobody is living the life they were born to live, and everyone is attempting to imitate their false ideal. Because of the variety of contents available, man is in a state of flux, depending on what he perceives. A good piece of content makes a person good for a while, but after a few scrolls, his or her role shifts and becomes immoral. This is the power of perception in shaping a person's role. Perception acts as a remote control for our intentions. Depending onwhat an individual is accessing, a motivational movie in the morning can inspire them to become a doctor, civil servant, scientist, or ethical person, but continuing scrolls in the evening can make them anti-social, anarchist, transgressor, or immoral. In psychology, we name what we perceive as mental constructions or schemas (mental blocks where we organize information), and these schemas shape our intents and personality.
Now, that we know what function movies play in our lives, we can talk about schemas, intentions, and manifestation. What role do movies play in forming our mental blocks and influencing our intentions and manifestation? Movies give us visual information that has a greater effect than audio information. Movies, being a source of both positivity and negativity, but provide a lot of dangerous content for children and adolescents. Many immoral and anti-social practice have become commonplace. This includes drug use, sexual content, rude language, and violence, among other things. As previously stated, man is the sum of his/her observations. Such offensive mental construction leads to offensive manifestation. A majority of children though try to copy their model as it is the feature of adolescence (hero-worship) like crimes, violence, drugs. When models will approve offense, constitutional sanctions will fail to curb violence and evils at an individual level and if models will approve the ethics and goodness, political governance will become smooth. For a child, watching movies with violence makes them feel that it’s normal thing to do. As proven by social psychologist Albert Bandura in his social learning theory in which he performed BOBO DOLL experiment, he says that most of the children, by the influence of thriller or crime oriented movies have a tendency towards being aggressive than those children who don’t watch such movies. Albert Bandura in his theory proved that man is a sum of social and circumstantial construction.
In one of the real and shocking incident, an Indian man in 2015 was arrested in Australia in the count of harassing two women. His lawyer, defending him in court, said that the man was innocent and only did this by the influence of Indian cinema. He escaped conviction as the court agreed that Bollywood movies do contribute to and support such behavior. It is the high time to understand and resolve this problematic issue before constitutional failures will prevail. Expose children to ethical and socialized contents. Prevent them from offensive mental constructions. Movie is not a fun it is indoctrination, radicalization, brainwashing that works in abstract and consequences the real life. Collectively we should stand against, instead of promoting such contents.
So, what as a parent we can do to prevent such negative influence? Firstly, we shall make our children aware of the correct image. We should inculcate moral values and teach them distinguish between good and bad before exposing them to movies. Parents should access such content collectively with their children, discuss the sensitive issues and answer their creative questions. This will decrease the negative influence. This is being under the influence of wise will make wise.
