
Kakching, June 2: Assam Rifles carried out a series of initiatives at the Khongjom War Memorial in Kakching district to promote historical awareness, civic responsibility, and heritage conservation.
The programme began on May 25, 2026, with a joint review of the memorial site conducted in coordination with the district administration. The assessment focused on identifying areas requiring maintenance and exploring ways to enhance the preservation and presentation of the historic site.
As part of the initiative, a Historical Awareness Programme was organised on May 26, 2026, aimed at educating young students and NCC cadets about the significance of the Battle of Khongjom, fought in 1891. A total of 114 participants attended the session, where they were briefed on the historical importance of the battle and its role in shaping regional history and national consciousness.
The programme concluded on June 1, 2026, with a Heritage Cleanliness Drive at the memorial site. Assam Rifles personnel, along with students and cadets, participated in cleaning and beautification activities to maintain the dignity and upkeep of the monument.
Organisers stated that the initiative was designed not only to preserve a significant heritage site but also to instil a sense of responsibility and awareness among youth regarding the importance of protecting historical landmarks.
The multi-phase effort reflects continued collaboration between security forces, educational institutions, and civil administration in promoting cultural heritage and community engagement.
