July 08, 2024 | BK News Service

Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police R R Swain on Sunday said the killing of six terrorists in Kulgam encounters is a big milestone for the security forces and these successes would strengthen the overall security environment.

On Saturday two back-to-back encounters erupted at Modergam Village and Frisal Chinigam in Kulgam district and so far six militants have been neutralized. Two army personnel also lost their lives in these encounters.

“Undoubtedly this is a big milestone for the security forces and these successes matter in strengthening the security environment”, the DGP told media persons today.

He said these successful operations are very meaningful for strengthening the security… substantively and also carrying a message that people did not want any more killings.

“I understand that people believe in peace and they don’t want there to be more human loss due to terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir,” DGP said.

He said these operations are indications of the security architecture and people are coming forward to provide inputs that are evident that the fight against the terrorism is at its logical conclusion.

“Success will come continuously and whatever efforts the militants make… Will be dealt with by the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Army and other agencies and with the support of the people the war against the terrorism will be won,” the DGP said.

Asked about the affiliation of the militants involved in the twin encounters, DGP said, “We have received news of the involvement of local terrorists as well in these encounters.”

Regarding the operations being carried out in Jammu division, DGP Swain said attempts are being made to activate the old thing (militancy) in Jammu division.

He said the fact that these incidents were taking place after 2006-07 is a matter of concern. But he said that does not mean the enemy has achieved any big success.

“If today we will talk about Jammu, Gonda, Doda, Udhampur, Basantgarh, Bani, you will see there is no presence of the ecosystem of terrorism which is a big success for the forces”, he added.
