KU conducts outreach programme on food technologies in Kargil

A team comprising faculty, technical and project staff from the Department of Food Science and Technology, University of Kashmir, is on a week-long visit to Union Territory of Ladakh to conduct various training programmes.
The team organised a training programme in collaboration with training partners G&G Skills Developers Pvt. Ltd. and Food and Drug Department, UT of Ladakh, at Kargil.
The programme was part of an extramural project funded by National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.
The participants included youth, women and professionals from the Industry, who were trained in various techniques of processing, preservation and packaging of various fruit and vegetable based processed products.
Nayeem Ahmad Lone, Food Safety Officer, educated the participants about various standards (FSSAI standards), regulations and legislations pertaining to various products.
The team also highlighted the importance of skill oriented courses to the students in the light of the New Education Policy-2020.
Opportunities regarding start-ups and entrepreneurships in the area of processing of fruits and vegetables were also identified during the interaction.
Prof F A Masoodi, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir and Principal Investigator of the project, joined the deliberations in online mode.
Dr Sajad Ahmad Mir, Dr Amir Gull, Jeelani Raja and Shoaib Mohammad Wani were part of the programme.
The team is expected to conduct some more programmes on eco-friendly and low-cost technologies besides creating awareness about various food safety issues.
