KU hosts workshop on NEP 2020 implementation for commerce studies at PG level

To align postgraduate commerce curricula with NEP 2020 guidelines, the Department of Commerce, University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the NEP Cell, organized a one-day national workshop.

The workshop aimed to enhance the understanding and practical implementation of the NEP 2020 in commerce education.

In her address, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, emphasized the need for curricula that equip students with employable skills and foster entrepreneurship. "We are committed to shaping a workforce capable of creating job opportunities and contributing to society," she said.

Dean Academic Affairs KU, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada, assured the implementation of NEP 2020 at the postgraduate level within a year, emphasizing the policy's focus on multidisciplinarity and innovation.

"This policy provides a unique opportunity to align education with industry needs while developing creativity and critical thinking among students," he said.

Registrar KU Prof. Naseer Iqbal underscored the University's focus on skill development and practical training, adding that NEP 2020 provides an opportunity to innovate and adapt curricula to meet modern challenges.

"The NEP 2020 framework allows us to innovate and adapt curricula to meet modern challenges, ensuring our students are well-prepared for the future," he stated.

The expert sessions were led by Prof. Anita Rani Dua, Kurukshetra University, and Prof. Kavita Sharma, University of Delhi.

Prof. Mushtaq Siddiqui, NEP Cell Coordinator KU, introduced frameworks for postgraduate implementation, recommending a coursework plus research (CW R) model.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Head Department of Commerce KU, Prof. Mohiuddin Sanghmi discussed the significance of skill development and entrepreneurship under NEP 2020.

The workshop concluded with discussions chaired by Dean College Development Council KU, Prof. Khursheed Ahmad Butt and Dean, School of Business Studies KU, Prof. Mushtaq Darzi, providing actionable recommendations for NEP 2020’s integration into commerce education.

The event proceedings were conducted by Dr. Pervaz Ahmad Shah, faculty, Department of Commerce KU and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Sabiya Mufti, faculty Department of Commerce KU.
