KU-IUCAA begin workshop on Data Analytics and AI in Physics, Astronomy

 To strengthen research capacity and enhance understanding of emerging technologies in the field of physical sciences, the Department of Physics, University of Kashmir (KU), in collaboration with the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Pune, commenced a four-day workshop on 'Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence in Physics and Astronomy' at the Main Campus.

The workshop aims to equip young researchers and students with practical knowledge of data-driven techniques and artificial intelligence tools that are increasingly shaping modern research in physics, astronomy, and related disciplines.

In her address at the inaugural session, Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, said that the workshop represents the University’s continued focus on integrating advanced technologies into academic and research pursuits.

“Such programmes are vital in equipping our scholars with skills that match the evolving scientific and industrial landscape,” she remarked.

Prof. Ajit Kembhavi, Professor Emeritus at IUCAA, spoke about the increasing role of artificial intelligence in understanding complex astronomical data and expanding the frontiers of astrophysical research.

Earlier, Prof. Gowhar Bashir, Head, Department of Physics KU, welcomed the participants and acknowledged IUCAA’s support in promoting collaborative learning and research initiatives at the University. Prof. Manzoor Malik, Coordinator of the workshop and faculty at the Department of Physics KU, highlighted the importance of developing data-centric and technology-oriented skills among researchers in view of the changing demands of academia and the job market.

The inaugural session was attended by faculty members, IUCAA experts, scholars, and students of the University.
