The first lecture of the series entitled ‘Know The Nobel Laureate’ was delivered by Dr Govindarasu Murugavel, faculty, Department of Chemistry, Islamic University of Science and Technology, Awantipora. The lecture was organised by the Department of Chemistry, KU.
The 2022 Nobel Prize in Chemistry was won by Barry Sharpless and Morten Meldal who shared the prize with Carolyn Bertozzi for “development of click chemistry and bioorthogonal chemistry.”
The theme of Dr Murugavel’s lecture was ‘Click Chemistry—a popular tool and its emergence on the diverse chemical and biological applications’.
Dr Murugavel talked about how to imitate natural molecules to develop products that have wide applications, and how click chemistry can bring ease, convenience and efficiency in creating molecules of interest in the laboratory.
The lecture series has been started on the advice of Vice-Chancellor Prof Nilofer Khan to familiarise faculty, students and research scholars with the vast research works undertaken by the Nobel laureates to encourage them to draw inspiration from them.
