KU organises blood camp at Hazratbal

Srinagar, June 19: With an aim to promote voluntary blood donation and create awareness about its life-saving significance, a blood donation camp was held at the University of Kashmir (KU) on Thursday.

The blood donation camp was jointly organised by the National Service Scheme (NSS), KU, and the University Health Centre in collaboration with the Rehabilitation Healthcare Foundation of India (RHFI) and Government LD Hospital, Srinagar.
The programme was supported by Scrapme, London Berry, Koshur Kalaam and Noor Arts.
The initiative witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, research scholars, faculty members, officers and non-teaching staff of the University, who came forward to donate blood and contribute towards a noble humanitarian cause.
In her message, Vice-Chancellor KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, appreciated the organisers for conducting the programme and underscored the importance of voluntary blood donation in saving precious lives.
She commended the donors for their selfless contribution and urged the University community to actively support initiatives aimed at serving society and strengthening healthcare systems.
During his visit to the camp, Registrar KU, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, highlighted the significance of blood donation as one of the highest forms of community service. He noted that educational institutions play a vital role in fostering social responsibility among youth and encouraging them to contribute meaningfully towards societal well-being.
The medical team from Government LD Hospital, Srinagar and medical officers from University’s Health Centre supervised the blood collection process and ensured that all medical and safety protocols were strictly followed.
Prospective donors underwent health screening and counseling before donating blood to ensure a safe and efficient donation process.
Director RHFI, Ajaz Rather and Coordinator University Health Centre Dr Khalid Nazir in their remarks lauded the University for supporting the initiative and said that sustained collaboration between healthcare organisations and educational institutions is crucial for addressing healthcare needs and promoting a culture of voluntary blood donation among the youth.
The programme was attended by programme officers NSS KU, NSS volunteers, students, research scholars, faculty members, officers, non-teaching staff, representatives of RHFI, medical personnel from Government LD Hospital, Srinagar, and officials of the University Health Centre.
