To promote the spirit of selfless service, unity, and harmony among youth, the University of Kashmir (KU) on Tuesday organised a Social Service Camp at the revered Mata Kheer Bhawani temple, Tulmulla, Ganderbal, on the auspicious occasion of Jyeshtha Ashtami.
The special camp was organised by the varsity's National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with the Department of Students' Welfare (DSW). More than 40 NSS volunteers, including both male and female students, actively participated in the camp and distributed refreshments among the devotees attending the mela.
Vice-Chancellor, KU, Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her message, said, “Social service is a powerful expression of human values and community strength. Through such initiatives, our students not only learn compassion and responsibility but also contribute meaningfully to the inclusive ethos of our society.”
Dean Students’ Welfare, KU, Prof. Pervez Ahmed, said that the University has consistently supported student-led service activities that help build communal amity and cultural understanding among young people.
Coordinator NSS, KU, Dr. Waqar Amin, said the camp reflects the University’s commitment to shaping socially responsible citizens and giving students experiential opportunities in nation-building activities.
The initiative was warmly appreciated by devotees and local stakeholders, who lauded the efforts of the University in fostering values of service, peace, and mutual respect through such meaningful engagements.
The University has been regularly organising such social service camps on major religious and cultural occasion to instil values of peace, tolerance, and togetherness among students.
