
In a heartfelt gesture of community outreach and selfless service, the Department of Students Welfare (DSW), University of Kashmir ( KU) organised a special social service camp today at Imambada Zadibal, Srinagar.
The initiative was aimed to commemorate the great sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions on the day of Ashura I.e 10th Muharram.
This great sacrifice was for safeguarding human values, spreading the message of universal brotherhood, harmony and peace.
A dedicated team of male and female student volunteers, under the supervision of Dean Students Welfare KU actively served sharbat, juice, and drinking water to thousands of mourners throughout the day and extended a warm sense of hospitality and care to those attending the spiritual gathering.
Vice Chancellor KU Prof. Nilofer Khan, in her message, lauded the efforts of the DSW team and student volunteers, stating, “This act of selfless service reflects the spirit of our university rooted in compassion, community and commitment to societal wellbeing. I am proud of our students who have shown how education extends beyond classrooms into meaningful action.”
Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Registrar, KU appreciated the initiative and said, “Our students have demonstrated tremendous empathy and responsibility by stepping up to serve the community with humility and grace. Such efforts shape them into well-rounded individuals and responsible citizens."
Prof. Pervez Ahmed, Dean Students Welfare KU while acknowledging the contributions of the students and staff, said, “The DSW is committed to nurturing a culture of social consciousness and community engagement. This camp is a humble step towards building a more compassionate and service-oriented student community.”
Dr. Shahid Ali Khan, Cultural Officer DSW KU expressed sincere gratitude to all participants and said that the camp witnessed active participation from DSW staff, who worked alongside the volunteers to ensure smooth distribution and proper facilitation for the mourners.
