Kulgam encounter ends, terrorist hideout busted

September 10, 2025 | Ayaan Wani

The two-day long gunfight between security forces and terrorists in the Guddar forest area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district ended on Tuesday.

Two soldiers and two terrorists were killed in the day-long encounter yesterday. An army man was injured in the gunfight and he is undergoing treatment in the hospital.
The deceased soldiers were identified as Subedar Perbhat Gaur and Lance Naik Narender Sindhu.
“Security forces suspended the search operation during the night and launched again in the early morning today,” a security official said.
He said during the search operation, no fresh contact was established with the terrorists.
“The operation was called off in the forenoon after a final round of searches by security forces,” the official said.
Meanwhile, forces busted a hideout in the forest during which an INSAS rifle along with other incriminating material was recovered.
Officials said the killed terrorists had been using the hideout to survive in the dense forest.
The identity of the slain terrorists is being ascertained, though one is suspected to be a Pakistani national, they said.
This was the second encounter in Kulgam within a month.
Earlier, security forces had battled militants in Akhal forests for 12 days from August 1, in one of the longest anti-militancy operations in recent years. That gunfight ended with the killing of a local LeT militant, while two soldiers also lost their lives.
