Kulgam hosts girls cricket tournament

Kulgam, May 6: To promote sports and raise awareness against substance abuse, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Shahzad Alam, inaugurated a Girls Cricket Tournament today at Sports Stadium Chawalgam under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan.

Addressing the occasion, the DC said that the tournament aims to provide a platform for young girls to showcase and hone their sporting talent while engaging youth in constructive activities.
He added that the initiative also serves as a medium to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and to encourage a healthy lifestyle.
Highlighting the importance of sports, he said such activities help channelise the energy of youth in a positive direction.
On the occasion, ADC, Viqar Ahmed Giri emphasised that such events not only nurture talent but also play a vital role in building discipline, teamwork, and resilience among young participants.
Participants were urged to stay away from substance abuse and actively engage in sports and other constructive pursuits.
