Srinagar, Aug 26 : A leopard was rescued alive after getting trapped in a wire at Bandi village of Uri in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said on Wednesday.

The animal was spotted by locals, who immediately alerted the Wildlife Department. A joint rescue team comprising personnel from the Wildlife Department, Police, Forest Protection Force and Army rushed to the spot and launched an operation to free the trapped leopard.
After sustained efforts, the team successfully disentangled the animal without further harm and shifted it to safety.
A Wildlife Department official said the leopard appeared to be unwell and had suffered injuries while being trapped in the wire. The animal has been taken into custody for medical examination and will remain under observation.
“The animal has been taken into custody for medical examination and will be kept under observation. After assessing its health condition, a call will be taken to release it in a suitable wildlife sanctuary,” the official said.
The timely intervention prevented further injury to the animal and was welcomed by local residents. Authorities have also urged people to immediately inform the concerned departments if wild animals are found injured, trapped or stranded in residential areas.
