JAMMU, June 26: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Friday reaffirmed the commitment to making Jammu and Kashmir drug-free, calling upon people to unite in protecting the youth from the menace of substance abuse on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
In a post on X, the Office of the Lieutenant Governor said the day serves as an opportunity to renew the collective resolve towards realizing the vision of a "Nasha Mukt J&K."
"On Int'l Day Against Drug Abuse & Illicit Trafficking, let's reaffirm our resolve to protect youth & realize the vision of a Nasha Mukt J&K. Through collective action, awareness & social responsibility, we can defeat this menace & build a healthier society for future generations," Sinha said.
Lt Governor on April 11 launched 100-day Nasha Mukht J&K campaign to eliminate the growing drug abuse from the Union Territory.
Over 1500 smugglers have been arrested and more than 100 properties attached by police and law enforcing agencies during the ongoing anti-drug drive in Jammu and Kashmir.
The LG has joined the ‘drug-free J&K' campaign and foot marches in all 20 districts of J&K under the drug free J&K campaign.
Sinha has said the perpetrators harming the society will not go unpunished.
“Cross-border drug smuggling is destroying young lives and, at the same time, financing terrorism. We must confront this through a whole-of-society approach,” he said.
Calling for a 'Drug-Free J&K' campaign to reach every household and become a permanent part of public consciousness, LG announced that law enforcement agencies have been given a free hand to completely eradicate the narco-terror ecosystem.
Under a newly issued SOP, individuals involved in drug smuggling will face immediate, severe consequences and their passports, driving licenses, arms licenses, and Aadhar are being cancelled, while their movable and immovable assets are being attached under the NDPS Act, he said.
The anti-drug drive has evoked overwhelming support from the society in both Kashmir and Jammu region.
