John elia was born in (1931) to a scholarly family in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh. His father Syed Shafiq Hasan Elia was a narrow-minded poet and scholar. John Elia said of him and himself, "The son to whom his highly idealistic and idealistic father had taught him no practical way of living, but had taught him that knowledge was the greatest virtue and books the greatest." What would have happened if the great wealth had not gone in vain." Pakistan's famous journalist, psychologist Rais Amrohi and the first editor and philosopher of Jang Akhbar Syed Muhammad Taqi were brothers of John Elia, while the famous calligrapher and painter Sadiqeen, filmmaker Kamal Amrohi were his cousins.

John Elia's childhood and boyhood stories are in the language of John Elia, for example, "A little while after my birth, I was staring at the ceiling and laughed strangely. When my aunts saw this, they ran out of the room in fear. She laughed wildly. After that I could not laugh openly until today" or "At the age of eight I made my first love and wrote my first poem." John elia education took place in madrasas in Amroha where he learned Urdu, Arabic and Persian. He had no interest in textbooks and used to fail in exams. After growing up, he became interested in philosophy and literature. He holds MA degrees in Urdu, Persian and Philosophy. He also knew English, Pahlavi and Hebrew, Sanskrit and French. In his youth he was attracted to communism.
After partition, his elder brother had gone to Pakistan. After the death of his mother and father, June Elia also had to go to Pakistan unwillingly (1956) and he missed Amruha and India for the rest of his life. He said, "I became an Indian by coming to Pakistan." To engage Jon in work and free him from the stress of migration, Rais Amrohavi launched an academic and literary journal "Ansha", in which John wrote editorials. Later this magazine was changed to "World Digest". During this period, John compiled a political history of the pre-Islamic Middle East and translated books on esotericism and philosophy into English, Arabic and Persian. He compiled a total of 35 books. He was also associated with the Urdu Development Board (Pakistan), where he was instrumental in the preparation of a great Urdu dictionary.
John elia temperament was romantic since childhood. He often used to talk to his beloved in his imagination. At the age of twelve, he also wrote letters to an imaginary lover, Sofia. Then, in his youth, he fell in love with a girl, Farah, whom he remembered throughout his life, but never expressed his love to her. There was a strange selfishness in his love and he considered the expression of love as a humiliating act. "Not showing interest to Hasan is giving Zakat to Hasan / We have given Zakat to Hassan by not showing interest" In this way, he took revenge from all the beauties of the history of love, on behalf of their lovers. Whose hearts were broken by these beauties. This is Jon Elia's first work in Urdu love poetry. During the time John Elia was working in "Ansha", he met the famous journalist and fiction writer Zahida Hina.
In (1970) both got married. Zahida Hina took good care of him and he was happy with her, but the difference in temperament of the two gradually showed its color. Finally, after the birth of three children, both of them got divorced. John Elia personality profile has been presented by his friend Qamar Razi as follows. "A quick-tempered but very sincere friend, a kind and frank teacher, a wayfarer immersed in his own thoughts, a fascinating debater, a proud philosopher, a quick-witted mourner, unreasonably self-possessed and rebellious. A lover, a recluse who always indulges in smoking, an associationism, very weak but eager to quarrel with the whole world at the same time, a non-mahram who takes all the time as his mahram, extremely irresponsible, sick, A poet of intense passion, this is the artist called John Elia.” John Elia had planted the flag of his poetry as soon as he reached Pakistan. Along with poetry, the audience was entertained by his dramatic style of reading.
His participation was the guarantee of the success of the mushairas. Prominent poets were afraid to participate in these mushairas, including John Elya. John was fond of attracting people by being a wonder. It was common for them to go out in summer covered with blankets, put on sunglasses at night, and go out to meet people in long boots. Separation from Zahida Hina was a big shock for John. He used to sit alone in a semi-dark room. Cigarettes and drinks also affected his health. He died on 8 November (2002).
As in his life, he was careless about the publication of his poetry. (1990) at the age of about sixty years, he published his first collection of poetry "Shayed" at the insistence of people. The second collection compiled by John Sahib "Ie" was published posthumously (2003). Khalid Ahmad Ansari, a close associate of June Elia, collected and edited his scattered words and writings and published them. John is a great poet not because his poetry meets all the criteria established by centuries of poetic tradition and critical standards. He is a great poet because there is no example in the tradition of Urdu poetry like the poems written by John Elia on the biggest subject of poetry, the emotional and psychological conditions of man. John ability to transfer the mood to the reader or listener with an intensity of feeling is second only to Mir Taqi Mir in Urdu poetry.
